Knaresborough with Kids: Boats, Castles and Ice Cream

The view from the castle grounds — the great viaduct striding over the Nidd — is the one everybody photographs, but the day belongs to the river: rowing boats by the hour, riverside paths flat enough for every generation, and ice cream at both ends.

Add Mother Shipton’s Cave, England’s oldest visitor attraction, and Wednesday’s market in the square, and you have a half-day that asks nothing of the driver: the train from Harrogate takes minutes, and the station is a twelve-minute walk from our front door.
